Assignment 12: Essential Question

My Essential Question: How can assessment scores students earn help me to predict the amount of distracted time they spend in class?

l chose this as my essential question because in class, many times students are distracted (talking, on their phones, spacing out, leaving class) and l believe that there may be a correlation between assessment scores and how focused the students are during class, so that is why l chose this question. 

What excites me the most about this research endeavor is that l will be collecting my own research from my own students so that way the correlation will be found in my classroom, so therefore l will be able to generalize to my students. 

This question definitely reflects a question that needs to be answered in the teaching profession. As students gain more freedom and access to technology, there is more opportunities for them to be distracted. This research will be able to provide insight into the amount of distracted time my geometry students consume, so that way my mentor and l will be able to offset that fact more efficiently with different activities or just to keep it in mind for the future. My mentor is also very eager to find out if there is indeed a correlation between these two factors, so l’m excited to help her find that answer!
