My Profile: My name is Morgann and I am a senior at West Forsyth High School. I plan on attending Mississippi State University or The University of Georgia to study Secondary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. Last year around Christmas, I was thinking about what career I would like to have when I had an epiphany-- I wanted to be a high school math teacher. Since then, I have been doing extensive research into teaching and this program was introduced for the first time last year, so this was the perfect opportunity to learn all I can about teaching before I even begin college.

My Mentorship: I mentor at my high school, West Forsyth. My mentor's name is Mrs. Studier, and she was actually my former teacher for Geometry and Algebra 2. Since I had her my sophomore year, she has been my mentor, and now it is amazing to be in the classroom working with her. I am in a geometry class, and everyday I check the students' homework, help them with the warmup and their classwork, and I also answer any questions they have throughout the class. During assessments, I walk around to answer questions as well as to keep the students from being tempted to "collaborate".

My Future: I plan on going to college next year to study Secondary Education. My mentorship will help me in my endeavors next year because I will already have an entire year of student teaching, which will be way ahead of many of my fellow students. My experience in the classroom so far has only solidified that teaching is what I want to do as my career.

Here I am explaining the equation of a circle to a student.

Here I am helping one of my students with a translation problem on her class work. (All students pictured had permission to do so.)
