Read the following blog post by Tim Elmore: http://www.growingleaders.com

In this blog post, Mr. Elmore talks about a conversation he had with a colleague. His colleague informed Mr. Elmore that the recently graduated college students that reported to intern for him were less than satisfactory. So, Mr. Elmore challenged his colleague to introduce his internship in a different way. This way was presenting the internship as a "12-week interview" and a "simulation of your future job". Did this presentation strike a cord with his interns? Yes, it did.

Now, how does this apply specifically apply to my mentorship? Well for starters, I need to make a GREAT impression on my mentor and the students I will be working with. Next, I need to ensure I am teachable, which is ironic considering I am in a classroom absorbing knowledge about teaching. Being teachable is having the passion to learn from someone, and I am passionate about learning from my mentor. I will also strive to conduct myself professionally and take initiative when appropriate. Responsibility for my tasks assigned to me by my mentor will be an absolute must as I must ensure I am grading homework logs and walking around helping students with various tasks. This year-long "interview" will be a great learning experience with challenges, fun, and a lot of "teaching" along the way!
