There is a time and a place for all things. Especially the way in which you communicate with others. There is a way you communicate with friends, with family, and with an employer. Each situation is different because each person and relation to you is different. When with friends, people tend to use slang and joke around. With family, it is usually relaxed and casual. However, when with an employer, formal and concise wording is used to be as professional as possible. This is especially difficult when being a teenager entering the workforce or an internship, because if they do not come across as mature and sophisticated, they will likely not be taken seriously in their desired field.
Communication points I will consider when talking to my mentor include: listening carefully, choosing my words carefully, and having positive body language. By actively listening, I will be able to absorb information and learn the lingo of the teaching profession. Choosing my words carefully when talking to my mentor is important to create a bond of mutual respect and make a good first impression. Having positive body language is an integral part of communication, especially with my mentor. By displaying proper body language, I will convey to her that I am excited and honored to be there and learn all I can.
