This video is of a 16 year old boy named JD Russo. He speaks of his passion for plastic pollution and his personal efforts to eliminate indifference in his life and in the lives of those around him.
My biggest takeaway from his talk is the need to get rid of second guessing and indifference in your actions in order to make a change for the better. This applies directly to my mentorship in the classroom because in order to help children and learn as much as I can about the inner workings of the teaching profession, I MUST care about what I am doing. If I do not care about the outcome of my effort or the outcome of their grades or the outcome of my learning, then I will not do my job. Indifference of education for young people is one of the most detrimental actions they could take, and my thought is that if I can showcase my passion and caring for education (especially math) then at least one student will share my passion and make a change in their lives to take their own education seriously and work at it relentlessly.
I will work to eliminate indifference in my life in order to set an example for the students I work with in order to spur in them a passion for the furtherance of their own education.
